I made a long shopping list for Vivian, my shoe designer friend from Shanghai, prior to her visit to NYC. Of course, I got none of the wish list items because my tastes are still pretty esoteric for the Asian market. She did obtain these Timeless Truth TT Bio Cellulose Collagen masks. It came in a box of 3, and based on internet research, costs $11 PER MASK. Muy expensive!
It contains collagen and hyaluronic acid; nothing new. Of course based on moar internet research, “Bio cellulose (or microbial cellulose) is a natural fiber with a diameter of only 20 nanometers – 1000 times thinner than human hair.” So who cares right?
Here are the apparent benefits:
- Bio cellulose has amazing fluid-holding capacity up to 100times their dry weight.
- Bio cellulose is really strong and resilient.
- Bio cellulose is sterile, toxin free, and extraordinarily pure.
I know bio cellulose is all the rage, but I don’t think this fabric is worth the premium cost. It’s the ingredients that count. So let’s take a look at the ingredients then:
I noticed that it’s a pretty high quality ingredient with less fillers & preservatives than most of those other masks. But I’m not THAT impressed by hyaluronic acid or collagen. I really don’t think applying collagen topically will do anything for actual collagen production.
I’M IMPRESSED, however, by that 81% penetration rate. Heh heh heh. I don’t know where they got these percentages from, but sure, why not? I’m all about 81% penetration combined with 95% comfort ::side glance.
The mask fits very very well because it’s that thin hydrogel-like texture which really clings to skin. It’s not dripping with serum but my face felt very hydrated and plump afterwards.
I DO like the mask but again I don’t get the bio cellulose rage and absolutely wouldn’t fork out $11 for one of these. I find the traditional hydrogel masks to be way more satisfying.
Pros: amazing fit, quality ingredients
Cons: no difference between the material and hydrogel masks which are slightly less expensive. Also, the box indicates miraculous effects after 29 days of consecutive application. Are you effing kidding me? That’s $319; might as well get fillers or Botox!
