Go Taupeless? Never! Sonia Kashuk Monochrome Eye Quad in 08 Textured Taupe

So I wanted to get this review of Sonia Kashuk’s Monochrome Eye Quad up because they’re being discontinued and in the clearance bin at Target. I bought it in 08 Textured Taupe because (1) I ❤ taupes and (2) it was the only one that had all the shadows intact. They’re still available on Target’s website; in stores, they’re discounted from $13.69 to $9.58. The other colors (Textured Cocoa and Textured Mauve) look dreamy, too.

Violet Tendencies: Laneige Water Drop Tint in Orchid Violet Review

Capitalizing on the radiant orchid trend of this year, Laneige Water Drop Tint now comes in Orchid Violet. Orchid Violet would more accurately be called Orchid Pink. In the tube, it looks like a milky radiant orchid, purple with a hint of pink. But on my naturally pinkish lips, the sheer-to-medium coverage results in a soft pink with a hint of purple. Concealing my lips beforehand didn’t really make it more purple.

Hello, Dolly! Babydoll Cheeks/Purple Blush for Warm Undertones

The centerpiece of babydoll cheeks is a cool-toned pink blush–be it hot candy pink or pastel pink. If you have warm/yellow undertones like me, you might have experienced trouble getting those types of colors to show up true to pan. Yellow undertones can cause tones to skew warm and even muddle cool pinks into appearing peachy or brownish.

The solution? Apply a light purple blush beforehand.

Light purple primers and color correctors are used to neutralize sallow skin, so logically light purple blushes do the same thing–just with more pigment. The purple counteracts yellow tones, laying a foundation for colors to show clearly.

For this post, I used Everyday Minerals blush in Anytime, a matte chalky lavender, as a base for Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Dollface, a quintessential pale, babydoll pink.

Sulwhas-who? Review of IOPE Air Cushion XP in C23 Cover Beige

When I entered the Amore store, I was intent on getting the Sulwhasoo Evenfair Perfecting Cushion. I had read lovely reviews of it (e.g., The RAEviewer, Beautiful Buns) and was interested in a glowy, dewy finish for dry skin.

But once I told the saleswoman what I wanted, she steered me towards the IOPE cushion. The IOPE was moisturizing, she insisted, whereas the Sulwhasoo (and Laneige) were more drying.

And that’s why this is a review of the IOPE Air Cushion XP instead of the Sulwhasoo cushion in No. 23 Medium Beige (see, I told you I was intent on getting the Sulwhasoo).

It’s eyelid tape that comes with eyeliner already printed on. (There’s also a version with the eyeliner in a downturned puppy-dog-eye shape.) Brilliant, yeah?

In the Nude – Maybelline The Nudes Palette

Nudity is one thing that is hard to pull off and is reserved for the perfect few. Except in makeup. Well, let me clarify. Nude colors can be universally appealing for everyone but actually hard for manufacturers to pull off. These colors either come off too dark or as if you’re not wearing anything which is actually not the point of a nude palette.

My eternal obsession is finding the perfect taupe and nude shade. So I squee’ed when the Duane Reade pharmacy across from work marked down Maybelline makeup to 40% off. $6 for a nude palette of 12 colors. Irresistible cheap thrill! My heart went pitter patter.

Purp Walk: Reviews of Peripera Peri’s Tint Milk in 3 Milky Lavender + Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil in Violet

Lavender is one of my favorite colors, so I was excited to try out some purple lippies from Renee’s stash: Peripera Peri’s Tint Milk in 3 Milky Lavender and Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil in Violet.

Purple lipsticks are usually hard for me to pull off, generally making my skin and teeth look sickly yellow. (See, e.g., MAC Lavender Whip and Purple Rite lipsticks.) But these skew pink on my naturally pinkish lips, making them wearable but perhaps disappointing if you were hoping for true purple.

Snail belle – TonyMoly Prestige Snail Lip Treatment

“Sluggish” chapped lips? Dip into this luxurious snail lip treatment. Yes I am obsessed with snail extract but beside that, this is a very nice lip balm if you don’t mind that it’s escargot-based and somewhat pricey.

The texture is thick & “cushiony” but not greasy. Once you open the container, you can see that the balm has been poured so smoothly that it looks like molded clear pink gelatin. I almost didn’t want to break the satiny smooth surface by dipping my finger into the balm.
