When I entered the Amore store, I was intent on getting the Sulwhasoo Evenfair Perfecting Cushion. I had read lovely reviews of it (e.g., The RAEviewer, Beautiful Buns) and was interested in a glowy, dewy finish for dry skin.
But once I told the saleswoman what I wanted, she steered me towards the IOPE cushion. The IOPE was moisturizing, she insisted, whereas the Sulwhasoo (and Laneige) were more drying.
And that’s why this is a review of the IOPE Air Cushion XP instead of the Sulwhasoo cushion in No. 23 Medium Beige (see, I told you I was intent on getting the Sulwhasoo).
IOPE (“eye-oh-pay”) is another brand under the AmorePacific Corporation umbrella. It’s the originator of the original cushion compact, and its latest version is the Air Cushion XP, which has broad spectrum SPF 50+. I bought the shade C23 Cover Beige, which I would guess is between MAC NC15-NC20, closer to NC15. C23 was the deepest shade available and was from the “C” line, which offers more coverage than the “N” (natural) line.
Update: It’s slightly too dark and yellow when I’m NC15, although it appears brightening (read: slightly too light) when I’m NC20. I would still recommend this as a better match for NC20.
Because this shade feels a little pale for summer, I haven’t used this cushion regularly enough to decide whether it’s actually more moisturizing/less drying than my other cushions. But I can say that it functions almost exactly like my other cushions (AmorePacific, Laneige, and HERA). That’s disappointing because I was hoping for some magically dewy skin that would knock other cushions out of the water, but it gave the same light-to-medium coverage with a satin finish. Ultimately, it’s still a great product.
P.S. Stay tuned for a post comparing all my cushions. Update: Comparison post is here.
On lips: Peripera Peri’s Tint Milk in 3 Milky Lavender. Reviewed here.
your skin looks so nice already! I’ve always used sort of like creamy foundation so i had to do a double check when I looked at the picture. It looks different from what I’m used to but hopefully I can try it. I want to try Laneige though but maybe this one would be better.
Thanks, Diana. Laneige is easier to get a hold of (at Target) and the cushions function pretty similarly (especially after I add powder and my regular makeup). –Angela
