My idea for sunscreen balls feels like a neverending quest–even though the voting campaign only started in the spring. Good news: Volition Beauty has lined up a lab to start making prototypes. BUTT my balls won’t move any further unless the vote goal is met. So pleeeaase vote HERE. Only a week left! My balls thank you.
I’m usually a mineral powder or cushion foundation gal. But lately, when I’m #blessed with a good skin day, I’ve been venturing outside my comfort zone with this K-Sport “WOW” Stick SPF 20 ($36) by Katherine Cosmetics (I got mine for a discount through an “inflooencer netwerk”).
Essentially a giant twist-up balm, it can be applied by swiping directly onto skin or–my preferred method–by using fingertips to warm and pick up the product and smooth onto skin. Continue reading “Love & Kate: Katherine Cosmetics WOW Stick Review & Swatches”
Congratulations! Look out for an email from Volition about your prize. Continue reading “Congrats to Giveaway Winner”
Volition is running a giveaway for everyone who votes for my Sun Pearls SPF 30 from now through the end of Sunday (July 2, 2017). Make sure to vote here and you’re automatically entered to win. One vote/entry per email. The giveaway is open to the U.S. only, but anyone can vote…and I hope you will!
The prize is Volition’s Illuminating Body Milk and Thanakha Radiant Bronzer (worth $75) and…MY BALLS (priceless)! That’s right, the winner will get a sample prototype of my sunscreen balls once it’s ready. Read more about the inspiration behind them in this post.
I’m currently in the middle of a weeklong trip and wish so badly I could have just packed 7 balls and checked SPF and day moisturizer off my list. Instead, I packed a brand-new tube of Biore Watery Essence–because I wasn’t sure whether my partly used tube would last the trip–and a mix of sample packets and jars of cream.
This is the last big push behind my balls. The campaign is almost up and I have several hundred votes to go, so thank you for every vote! And thanks to everyone who has already voted.
Read more about the other prizes here. Just in time for summer!
GOOD LUCK & tell your friends!
The randomly selected winner will be announced on Monday, July 3rd.
P.S. Volition doesn’t test on animals and recently became PETA-certified. ❤
Supergoop! is the company that most closely aligns with my
obsession passion. Their products are designed to make sunscreen as easy and comfortable to apply as regular skincare, a mission that is near and dear to my balls heart. It’s the company that I would have dreamed up if I had balls instead of a law degree.
Today I’m spotlighting 3 products that truly fill gaps in the market:
- Super Power Sunscreen Mousse Broad Spectrum SPF 50 ($19 for 3.4 oz. or $34 for 7.1 oz.)
- Forever Young Hand Cream with Sea Buckthorn Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 40 PA+++ ($12 for 1 fl. oz. or $38 for 10 fl. oz.)
- Sun-Defying Sunscreen Oil with Meadowfoam Broad Spectrum SPF 50 ($8 for 10 ml/1 fl. oz. or $34 for 5 fl. oz.)
These use only chemical filters, although the company makes physical-only sunscreens, too.
Have I mentioned my balls yet? Sunscreen balls, that is.
For the last two months, I’ve been exposing my balls to as many people and in as many places as I can. Here, Instagram, Facebook…
Why am I so passionate about my balls getting into your hands?
1. You need more sunscreen than you think.
As a rule of thumb, dermatologists often recommend a quarter of a teaspoon for your face in order to achieve the level of SPF advertised on the label. (I’ve even started to see half a teaspoon recommended.) Psssh, you scoff. I’m easily slapping on that much sunscreen/SPF moisturizer. For the last couple of months, I’d been pulling some extra hours for the man. That means going straight from bed to my work desk and from my work desk straight to bed. That means…SOME makeup must be left at work. #Didntwakeuplikedis.
You know what’s the one thing you NEED? Eye primer in a champagne color! It’s actually truly essential. I use it as primer, shadow, and even highlighter. Picked this little-known beauty up at the Rite Aid in Brookfield (I also do shopping at pharmacies now, sob)

Reminder: Volition’s giveaway in support of my balls ends TOMORROW (Monday, April 3, 2017). To learn more about the development of my balls (sunscreen + moisturizer portioned into pearls to ensure you get the full advertised level of sun protection), read this interview by Fiddy Snails ❤
One vote/entry per email. Giveaway is open to U.S. residents.
Good luck and thanks for supporting my balls!

I don’t say that lightly. But as someone with straight and slippery hair that could barely be teased after 15 mins of backcombing and hair spraying by a wedding hairdresser, that’s the truth. If I lost this $130 tool, I’d immediately order a new one. And yes, I paid for both the original and petite versions. JAN. 2019 UPDATE: I’ve since bought and tried the Rootie version as well. It’s too subtle without getting any closer to roots, so it just ended up taking longer to achieve the same amount of volume. Of the three versions/sizes of Voloom, my fave is still Voloom Petite.
This post will sound like a paid ad for Voloom (“Turn the volume up to 11!!”), but it’s not. (I *wish* we got commission for all the people we’ve converted.) I’m just obsessed with it because IT WORKS and IT’S EASY. Ever since Renee introduced me to this, I’ve used this regularly and often. And both of us named this one of our 2016 furvorites.
