Fifty shades, give or take 48 shades. Renee gifted me two purrrty purrrple eye shadows: Ben Nye Lumiere Grande Colour in LU-17 Cosmic Violet and Anna Sui Eye Shadow in 207 (link is to the very similar shade 201; couldn’t locate 207 online but it’s at the Anna Sui store). I tried them out today over NYX Eyeshadow Base in White, which I bought with the hope that I’ll now experiment with more colorful eye shadows.
The NYX base can be applied sheerly or built up to opaque coverage. It has a dense creamy consistency and dries down to bright matte white. Ben Nye Cosmic Violet is a pearly pink-toned lavender duochrome with an iridescent blue shift. Anna Sui 207 is a dark blue-violet purple with a satin finish.
The swatches show the NYX base swatched (1) heavily and (2) lightly and the eye shadows swatched (1) on bare skin and (2) over the NYX base.
Note: The Anna Sui is mislabeled “201” in the photos. It should be 207. Also see swatches of both and a gorgeous EOTD featuring 207 on Evonnz.
The NYX base definitely helps shadows show their true colors and opacity.
In the below photo taken with flash, you can see the iridescent pearliness of Cosmic Violet.
The Anna Sui is made to fit this adorable purse-shaped case (sold separately). Aaaaah, it’s all in the details, isn’t it?
Look #1: Patted the NYX base lightly onto the lid and then applied Cosmic Violet all over the lid and 207 in the outer corner. Used matte taupe and shimmery white to contour and highlight.
Look #2: Patted the NYX base onto just above the upper lash line and then applied 207 on the same area. Used shimmery and matte taupes for the rest of the upper lid. Applied Cosmic Violet along lower lash line.
The purple looks very pretty on your eyes!
Thanks! Purple shadow is outside my comfort zone, but it was fun to play with. –Angela
