Hello, Dolly! Babydoll Cheeks/Purple Blush for Warm Undertones

The centerpiece of babydoll cheeks is a cool-toned pink blush–be it hot candy pink or pastel pink. If you have warm/yellow undertones like me, you might have experienced trouble getting those types of colors to show up true to pan. Yellow undertones can cause tones to skew warm and even muddle cool pinks into appearing peachy or brownish.

The solution? Apply a light purple blush beforehand.

Light purple primers and color correctors are used to neutralize sallow skin, so logically light purple blushes do the same thing–just with more pigment. The purple counteracts yellow tones, laying a foundation for colors to show clearly.

For this post, I used Everyday Minerals blush in Anytime, a matte chalky lavender, as a base for Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Dollface, a quintessential pale, babydoll pink.

Sulwhas-who? Review of IOPE Air Cushion XP in C23 Cover Beige

When I entered the Amore store, I was intent on getting the Sulwhasoo Evenfair Perfecting Cushion. I had read lovely reviews of it (e.g., The RAEviewer, Beautiful Buns) and was interested in a glowy, dewy finish for dry skin.

But once I told the saleswoman what I wanted, she steered me towards the IOPE cushion. The IOPE was moisturizing, she insisted, whereas the Sulwhasoo (and Laneige) were more drying.

And that’s why this is a review of the IOPE Air Cushion XP instead of the Sulwhasoo cushion in No. 23 Medium Beige (see, I told you I was intent on getting the Sulwhasoo).

Texas Fold ‘Em: Cogit Cats Eye Double Eyelid Tape Review

01 Cogit Cats Eye Double Eyelid Tape Review
Real-life quote from a guy

Renee and I recently majorly hauled at oo35mm in New York’s Chinatown. The quirkiest thing I bought was the Cogit Cats Eye Double Eyelid Tape ($16 for 20 pairs at oo35mm). It’s eyelid tape that comes with eyeliner already printed on. (There’s also a version with the eyeliner in a downturned puppy-dog-eye shape.) Brilliant, yeah?02 Cogit Cats Eye Double Eyelid Tape Review

Super Triple Heeeeyyy~! Naruko AMPM Super Triple HA Hydrating Souffle Review

01 Naruko ampm Super Triple HA Hydrating Souffle ReviewNaruko is a Taiwanese skincare brand headed up by a man named Niuer and focuses a lot on natural and plant-based ingredients. It has various lines targeted at different skincare issues. From Naruko’s AMPM line, I purchased the Super Triple HA Hydrating Souffle.

“Super Triple HA” refers to the three forms of hyaluronic acid in the ingredients. Although I think something got lost in translation because the English ingredients list includes sodium hyaluronate twice as well as hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid.

Purp Walk: Reviews of Peripera Peri’s Tint Milk in 3 Milky Lavender + Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil in Violet

Lavender is one of my favorite colors, so I was excited to try out some purple lippies from Renee’s stash: Peripera Peri’s Tint Milk in 3 Milky Lavender and Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil in Violet.

01 Peripera Peri's Tint Milk 3 Milky Lavender ReviewPurple lipsticks are usually hard for me to pull off, generally making my skin and teeth look sickly yellow. (See, e.g., MAC Lavender Whip and Purple Rite lipsticks.) But these skew pink on my naturally pinkish lips, making them wearable but perhaps disappointing if you were hoping for true purple.

Chic Cheek – Lavshuca Dressy Glow Cheek blush

New amazing makeup brand alert: Lavshuca. I want Lavshuca everything. I compulsively dropped this into my shopping basket while doing the binge cosmetics trip in LA and what a find! This is perhaps the TOP makeup item I’ve discovered this month. And I’ve purchased a lot of shit.

At $20 and a tiny container you would think it’s overpriced and nothing special. But this blush. Oh my this blush. First the container is exquisite. It comes with a puff with a little ribbon loop to hold on one finger, a separator so that the powder doesn’t get all over. Everything is embossed with pink lace (including the surface of the blush powder) AND the color is magnificent. One pat on the cheek and you’re ready to go. Such intense color and pigmentation. Good Vibrations: Vibrating Foundation/BB Cream Puffs + Review of ElishaCoy Puff

^Hehe, BB cream puffs . . .

A couple of years ago, I purchased some vibrating makeup puffs. At the time, vibrating puffs were fairly trendy in Korea and were packaged with BB creams and foundations in sets. During my recent Asian cosmetics shopping spree though, I hardly saw any vibrating puffs. However, there are plenty of options on eBay and other websites.

01 ElishaCoy Make-Up Artist Digital Foundation ReviewThe big advantage that vibrating puffs claim to have is the ability to smoothly blend and apply foundation/BB cream/skincare in light, even layers–especially compared to finger application. Check out HopeInABlog’s comparison of various puffs for more info.

Clay pride – Tsururi Ghassoul Mineral Clay Pack

If you look up the mysterious “Ghassoul” clay on Wikipedia you will see that it’s been used in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco since the eighth century for skin and hair. Surprisingly this mask is made in Japan by a Japanese company. I still trust it…those Japanese cosmetic products, while pricey, are almost always well worth it.

I picked this mask on a whim while grocery shopping at Sunrise Mart in the East Village.

More Cushion for the Pushin’: Laneige BB Cushion & HERA UV Mist Long Stay Cushion Reviews

01 Hera UV Mist C21 Laneige BB Cushion Light Review Laneige BB Cushion in Light ($34) and HERA UV Mist Cushion Long Stay in C21 (Cool Vanilla Cover) are basically sisters. They’re nearly identical in shade and finish: a peachier NC15 and a satin finish that remains a little sticky unless you powder over it. The coverage of both is buildable to medium: capable of evening out skintone, covering redness, and softening (but not concealing) the look of spots.

This is one of the rare instances where Renee and I have the same item. Renee has the Laneige BB cushion in a slightly darker shade. She likes the even, natural, and luminous finish and the light to medium coverage.
