Fifty Shades of Purple: Ben Nye Cosmic Violet, Anna Sui Eye Shadow 207, & NYX Eye Shadow Base in White – Review + Swatches

Fifty shades, give or take 48 shades. Renee gifted me two purrrty purrrple eye shadows: Ben Nye Lumiere Grande Colour in LU-17 Cosmic Violet and Anna Sui Eye Shadow in 207 (link is to the very similar shade 201; couldn’t locate 207 online but it’s at the Anna Sui store). I tried them out today over NYX Eyeshadow Base in White, which I bought with the hope that I’ll now experiment with more colorful eye shadows.

01 Ben Nye LU-17 Cosmic Violet Anna Sui Eyeshadow 201 NYX White Eye Shadow Base Review

The NYX base can be applied sheerly or built up to opaque coverage. It has a dense creamy consistency and dries down to bright matte white. Ben Nye Cosmic Violet is a pearly pink-toned lavender duochrome with an iridescent blue shift. Anna Sui 207 is a dark blue-violet purple with a satin finish. Nymphomani-Ugh: Etude House Nymph Aura Volumer Baby Glow Stick Review

01 Etude House Nymph Aura Volumer Baby Glow Stick ReviewOn my neverending quest for glowy K-star skin, I tried Etude House’s Nymph Aura Volumer Baby Glow Stick. Etude House makes various Nymph Aura Volumers in liquid form. (Volumer=makeup that gives a dewy, shiny, plump look. It’s often liquid and can be mixed into liquid foundation and BB cream.)

03 Etude House Nymph Aura Volumer Baby Glow Stick ReviewSince I frequently wear mineral powder foundation and powder over my BB cushion, I thought the stick version would disturb my makeup less than the liquid version.

Extreme, Exshmeem: The Face Shop Face It Extreme Dot Pen Eyeliner EX Review

01 The Face Shop Face It Extreme Dot Pen Eyeliner EX in Black ReviewThe Face Shop’s Face It Extreme Dot Pen Eyeliner EX in 01 Black can actually be used for the subtlest, most natural look that’s far from extreme. A felt-tip liquid eyeliner pen, the eyeliner’s main selling point is the three-pronged fork tip designed for tightlining between lashes.

HanYUL Doin’? Review of Hanyul Luminant Cushion + Epic BB Cushion Comparison

I am officially cutting myself off from buying any more BB cushions until I can get through the ones I own. My latest acquisition is the Hanyul Luminant Cushion, adding to my collection of cushions by AmorePacific, IOPE, Laneige, and HERA (links are to past reviews).

02 AmorePacific IOPE Hanyul Laneige HERA Cushions ReviewI’ll review the Hanyul cushion first and then compare all my cushions.  Update: I did an even bigger cushion roundup in this post.

Hanyul Luminant Cushion Review

I bought the Hanyul Luminant Cushion PURELY because it’s shilled by Jun Ji Hyun (Cheon Song Yi from “My Love From Another Star”). Ugh, I’m so obsessed with her glowing skin. Ji Hyun, just start the protective order proceedings now.

#beautyselfie: Thuc

#beautyselfie is my homage to Into the Gloss’s Top Shelf and Get It Beauty’s Talking Mirror series.

This inaugural #beautyselfie post features my friend Thuc, whose beauty style is playful and bright. She doesn’t wear much makeup on a day-to-day basis, but she can pull off lipstick from hot fuchsia to hot orange to hot magenta purple to, well, hot anything!

Laying it out in Lavender – Tom Ford’s Eyecolor Quad in Orchid Haze

This Tom Ford eyeshadow quad is not for everybody. It’s for those who won’t blink at paying 20 times normal prices for eyeshadows. The palette is pretty damn expensive at $79 for 4 common colors in various shades of taupe-purple and there seems to be many similar dupes out there (which I have not tried because hel-lo, I paid for the real thing.) However, it is one of the most elegant palettes I own, both in terms of packaging and in terms of the shades once they are applied.

The Orchid Haze is one out of 3 eyeshadow quads in the purple family. Tom Ford’s entire range of shadow quads has some interesting shades that are mixed with soft sparkles. I did NOT want any of those because no matter how expensive the brand, that glitter ends up all over your face and lips like you were in a stripper parade. They did look nice though (I was eyeing Cognac Sable and Golden Mink like they were actual fur coats.)

I picked Orchid Haze because despite the purple inclinations, I could tell right away that it is very wearable. The top two shades in the quad are shimmery (but NOT glittery or metallic) champagne and taupe. The bottom two shades are matte mauve/purple and dark brown/purple which are great for crease shading or night time smoky eyes.

Like a Kid in a Candy Shop: Comparison Swatches of Laneige Water Drop Tints in Orchid Violet, Neon Pink, and Peach Coral

07 Laneige Water Drop Tint Orchid Violet Neon Pink Peach Coral Comparison
Seriously, don’t they remind you of sweets and macarons?

I now have three Laneige Water Drop Tints in the milky/pastel family. (Although none look pastel once on the lips because they’re rather softly pigmented.)

Cheap Stick – Jordana Color Tint Blush Stick

Lately due to my immense pleasure from scoring the Maybelline nudes Palette for $6, I’d been on the lookout for cheap drug store thrills. Also because I’m going effing broke from buying all these Tom Ford eyeshadows (review later.) Let me take you to middle school happiness of Jordana makeup (right along with those Bonnibell lip balms and middle school dance makeouts.)
