Koh-Gen D’OH! – Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation in OC2

The Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation is one of the highest rated foundations on MakeupAlley.com. At $62 it’s also one of the most expensive. And…although I do love it for my skin, it certainly isn’t for everyone. Because it’s too damn sheer for an “HD foundation.” Case in point: look below and tell me which pic is the “foundation” pic:

Yes it’s the bottom one, by a small margin.

JADEd – freeset Jade Hydro Gel Eye Hole and Eye Patch

For those unfamiliar with the “eye hole” item (in terms of cosmetics,) it’s like a mask for your undereye, except you put it right on your brow bone. I got this for about $18.99 for a jar of 120 sheets which include both undereye and brow bone sheets. Last weekend I was at the Pacific Mall in the Toronto, CN area and picked up some nifty new Asian products! I was happy aside from the fact that those salesgirl practically glued themselves to me as I walked from aisle to aisle. Is this some sort of Chinese business practice?

Where the Truth Lies – LUSH cosmetics Sacred Truth Mask

Every time I wander into LUSH I blow at least $50. Their irresistibly delicious-looking products, shaped like colorful desserts and food, just make me want to buy everything in the store. The store is structured to make you feel like a kid in a candy store. A very expensive candy store.

The other day I picked up a few bubble bars from there ($11 a bar for one-time use. So annoyingly expensive) and the sales girl gave me a sample of the Sacred Truth fresh face mask. Ok it’s an anti-aging mask so that bitch might’ve been saying I’m old…whatever. I like the mask though.

The ingredients used are food-grade and all natural so pretty much it’s like you’re putting a home made mask straight from the kitchen.

Laying it out in Lavender – Tom Ford’s Eyecolor Quad in Orchid Haze

This Tom Ford eyeshadow quad is not for everybody. It’s for those who won’t blink at paying 20 times normal prices for eyeshadows. The palette is pretty damn expensive at $79 for 4 common colors in various shades of taupe-purple and there seems to be many similar dupes out there (which I have not tried because hel-lo, I paid for the real thing.) However, it is one of the most elegant palettes I own, both in terms of packaging and in terms of the shades once they are applied.

The Orchid Haze is one out of 3 eyeshadow quads in the purple family. Tom Ford’s entire range of shadow quads has some interesting shades that are mixed with soft sparkles. I did NOT want any of those because no matter how expensive the brand, that glitter ends up all over your face and lips like you were in a stripper parade. They did look nice though (I was eyeing Cognac Sable and Golden Mink like they were actual fur coats.)

I picked Orchid Haze because despite the purple inclinations, I could tell right away that it is very wearable. The top two shades in the quad are shimmery (but NOT glittery or metallic) champagne and taupe. The bottom two shades are matte mauve/purple and dark brown/purple which are great for crease shading or night time smoky eyes.

Cheap Stick – Jordana Color Tint Blush Stick

Lately due to my immense pleasure from scoring the Maybelline nudes Palette for $6, I’d been on the lookout for cheap drug store thrills. Also because I’m going effing broke from buying all these Tom Ford eyeshadows (review later.) Let me take you to middle school happiness of Jordana makeup (right along with those Bonnibell lip balms and middle school dance makeouts.)

Nail It In the Nude – NAILS INC. The Perfect Nude in Montpelier Walk

The Nails Inc. website says “Perfect Nude polish is the latest innovation for a healthy manicure – like a BB cream for your nails.” Ok bullshit, it’s not a BB cream (which is basically a tinted moisturizer) for your nails. It’s just a really nice nude-color nail polish mmkay? I understand the need to capitalize on the BB cream craze (soooooooo South Korea circa 2010 btw) but BB for hair and nails is just a dumb concept. It’s like saying “I put foundation on my hair.”

In the Nude – Maybelline The Nudes Palette

Nudity is one thing that is hard to pull off and is reserved for the perfect few. Except in makeup. Well, let me clarify. Nude colors can be universally appealing for everyone but actually hard for manufacturers to pull off. These colors either come off too dark or as if you’re not wearing anything which is actually not the point of a nude palette.

My eternal obsession is finding the perfect taupe and nude shade. So I squee’ed when the Duane Reade pharmacy across from work marked down Maybelline makeup to 40% off. $6 for a nude palette of 12 colors. Irresistible cheap thrill! My heart went pitter patter.
