Koh Gen DO! – In CUSHION form

Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation SPF 15 Cushion is my new magic makeup. What’s that you say? They don’t make cushions? Well, I DO, beeches! Behold the KGD Magic Cushion. Inside a Laneige case. I will explain:

I blew $30 on the Laneige BB Cushion while ignoring the fact that it contains Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate (octinoxate) in abundance for that lovely SPF 50+. Of course I broke out like it was the zombie apocalypse.

Snail Mailed – Cupidrop’s sponsored Lioele Intensive Time Reversing Snail Cream

In the spirit of full disclosure, this Liole Intensive Time Reversing Snail Cream was kindly sent to us by Cupidrop to review. It’s a new website for Asian cosmetics and they have a few promos going on. (I’ve had my eye on this sheep oil cream but that will have to wait…)

However they didn’t manufacture this product NOR does this alter my absolutely real opinion of this product in any way. Come on, we can afford this shit ourselves 🙂 But I gleefully tore open the UPS containing MOARRRR snail cream. But this time, it’s ANTI-AGING!

Roth; it ain’t just a Retirement Plan – Peter Thomas Roth Instant Mineral Broad Spectrum SPF 45 Sunscreen

After being darkened to level “crispy” in Vegas I have been ever so thankful for good face sunscreen. And I can’t just take any face sunscreen, peasants. I have an allergic reaction that develops into measle-like rashes at one droplet of any chemical sunscreens. You can imagine the dilemma of being allergic to sunscreen in the summer. Voila! Mineral/physical barrier sunscreen to the rescue!

Pour Some Sugar On Me: Skinfood Black Sugar Perfect First Serum Review

01 Skinfood Black Sugar Perfect First Serum ReviewThe full name of the product is Black Sugar Perfect First Serum No. 1 Original (as opposed to No. 2 Fraud?).

>>Oct. 2016 Update: Skinfood discontinued this and in fact came out with a No. 2 version: 2X Essential for dry skin, reviewed here, and 2X Light for oily skin.  2X Essential is slightly reformulated and has a pH of 5 but is otherwise indistinguishable from the original, so everything in this post still applies.<<

It’s basically a first treatment essence that claims to exfoliate, brighten, fight wrinkles, and hydrate.  As with other “first essences,” I use this as a toner.  (Skinfood classifies this as a serum, not a toner, but its directions are to use immediately after cleansing.) I tested the pH to be between 4 and 5.  Continue reading “Pour Some Sugar On Me: Skinfood Black Sugar Perfect First Serum Review”

Dewin’ It – Dewytree Ginseng Nutritious Black Sheet Mask

Don’t mind if I ‘dew’ another sheet mask review. I have bazillions of them in the fridge and it’s almost part of my nightly routine now that I’m traveling and being dehydrated so much. During the last LA trip, I dropped 40 bones on a box of 10 sheet masks thanks to this beckoning sign advertising the NEW dew product:

It’s really just like any other sheet mask. I don’t know what’s the deal with the popular new black fabric but maybe if I read Korean perhaps I can understand any claims regarding the virtues of the black mask (cue Rachel Dolezal).

Dupe-plicity: Embryolisse vs. Charlotte’s Magic Cream

01 Charlottes Magic Cream DupesOne of the recurring searches that leads to our site is some variation of “Is Embroylisse a dupe for Charlotte’s Magic Cream.” Wanting a dupe for Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream is understandable: it’s now an eye-popping $100 for 1.7 oz. ($58.82/oz.). Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre is a bargain at $16 for 1.0 oz. or $28 for 2.6 oz. ($10.77/oz.).

In my review of Magic Cream, I stated that they weren’t dupes based on trying Embryolisse on the back of my hand. Since then, I’ve tried a sample of Embryolisse and can do a more detailed comparison of the two.

Bee Mine – Ciel Bijou Bee Venom Maskpack

I don’t remember when A and I started our beauty care package but it is a fabulous ad-hoc friendship subscription service that doesn’t charge a subscription fee AND ultra exclusive to just two members. It’s full of the latest (or classic) beauty items curated by two of the hottest self-crowned beauty queens on the East Coast.

We call it…THE ROX BOX. I got mine today:

I was immediately drawn to the mask with kittens on the cover, and this “white power” face essence, but more on that later…

My first product to review out of the box was the mask with a Victorian-themed Marie Antoinette figure on the cover:

Flip-Flopper: Why I Switched from PocketDerm Anti-Aging to Acne

Previous PocketDerm posts: Getting Started and Weeks 1 through 4 Update

NOTE: PocketDerm has rebranded itself as Curology and eliminated the distinction between “Anti-Aging” and “Acne” goals.  All ingredients are now fair game for inclusion in your Curology prescription–regardless of whether they’re anti-aging or acne.

When I signed up for PocketDerm Anti-Aging last November, my main concerns were fine lines, brown sunspots, and red marks left over from long-gone blemishes.

Fast forward to March: I developed a giant honker on my right cheek that didn’t go away and in the subsequent weeks, I increasingly developed more blemishes on my cheeks and jawline, minor at first but recently of the festering, tender-to-the-touch variety.

04 PocketDerm Progress
WTF, face?
