The Pursuit of Ashiness: Anna Sui Eyebrow Color Compact 03 Ash Brown Review

01 Anna Sui Eyebrow Color Compact 03 Ash Brown ReviewOne of my biggest peeves is red-toned eyebrows. I have dark brown hair with reddish/orange tones in certain lighting, but even then, reddish brows look plain unnatural. I always prefer a cool, ashy brown or taupe. As it is, any color will appear warmer once applied to my warm-toned skin.

The Anna Sui Eyebrow Color Compact in 03 Ash Brown ($28) caught my eye because it includes a distinctive green shade. That’s right, green. Continue reading “The Pursuit of Ashiness: Anna Sui Eyebrow Color Compact 03 Ash Brown Review”

Fifty Shades of Purple: Ben Nye Cosmic Violet, Anna Sui Eye Shadow 207, & NYX Eye Shadow Base in White – Review + Swatches

Fifty shades, give or take 48 shades. Renee gifted me two purrrty purrrple eye shadows: Ben Nye Lumiere Grande Colour in LU-17 Cosmic Violet and Anna Sui Eye Shadow in 207 (link is to the very similar shade 201; couldn’t locate 207 online but it’s at the Anna Sui store). I tried them out today over NYX Eyeshadow Base in White, which I bought with the hope that I’ll now experiment with more colorful eye shadows.

01 Ben Nye LU-17 Cosmic Violet Anna Sui Eyeshadow 201 NYX White Eye Shadow Base Review

The NYX base can be applied sheerly or built up to opaque coverage. It has a dense creamy consistency and dries down to bright matte white. Ben Nye Cosmic Violet is a pearly pink-toned lavender duochrome with an iridescent blue shift. Anna Sui 207 is a dark blue-violet purple with a satin finish. JADEd – freeset Jade Hydro Gel Eye Hole and Eye Patch

For those unfamiliar with the “eye hole” item (in terms of cosmetics,) it’s like a mask for your undereye, except you put it right on your brow bone. I got this for about $18.99 for a jar of 120 sheets which include both undereye and brow bone sheets. Last weekend I was at the Pacific Mall in the Toronto, CN area and picked up some nifty new Asian products! I was happy aside from the fact that those salesgirl practically glued themselves to me as I walked from aisle to aisle. Is this some sort of Chinese business practice?

Extreme, Exshmeem: The Face Shop Face It Extreme Dot Pen Eyeliner EX Review

01 The Face Shop Face It Extreme Dot Pen Eyeliner EX in Black ReviewThe Face Shop’s Face It Extreme Dot Pen Eyeliner EX in 01 Black can actually be used for the subtlest, most natural look that’s far from extreme. A felt-tip liquid eyeliner pen, the eyeliner’s main selling point is the three-pronged fork tip designed for tightlining between lashes.

#beautyselfie: Thuc

#beautyselfie is my homage to Into the Gloss’s Top Shelf and Get It Beauty’s Talking Mirror series.

This inaugural #beautyselfie post features my friend Thuc, whose beauty style is playful and bright. She doesn’t wear much makeup on a day-to-day basis, but she can pull off lipstick from hot fuchsia to hot orange to hot magenta purple to, well, hot anything!

Laying it out in Lavender – Tom Ford’s Eyecolor Quad in Orchid Haze

This Tom Ford eyeshadow quad is not for everybody. It’s for those who won’t blink at paying 20 times normal prices for eyeshadows. The palette is pretty damn expensive at $79 for 4 common colors in various shades of taupe-purple and there seems to be many similar dupes out there (which I have not tried because hel-lo, I paid for the real thing.) However, it is one of the most elegant palettes I own, both in terms of packaging and in terms of the shades once they are applied.

The Orchid Haze is one out of 3 eyeshadow quads in the purple family. Tom Ford’s entire range of shadow quads has some interesting shades that are mixed with soft sparkles. I did NOT want any of those because no matter how expensive the brand, that glitter ends up all over your face and lips like you were in a stripper parade. They did look nice though (I was eyeing Cognac Sable and Golden Mink like they were actual fur coats.)

I picked Orchid Haze because despite the purple inclinations, I could tell right away that it is very wearable. The top two shades in the quad are shimmery (but NOT glittery or metallic) champagne and taupe. The bottom two shades are matte mauve/purple and dark brown/purple which are great for crease shading or night time smoky eyes.

Go Taupeless? Never! Sonia Kashuk Monochrome Eye Quad in 08 Textured Taupe

01 Sonia Kashuk Monochrome Eye Quad Textured Taupe ReviewSo I wanted to get this review of Sonia Kashuk’s Monochrome Eye Quad up because they’re being discontinued and in the clearance bin at Target. I bought it in 08 Textured Taupe because (1) I ❤ taupes and (2) it was the only one that had all the shadows intact. They’re still available on Target’s website; in stores, they’re discounted from $13.69 to $9.58. The other colors (Textured Cocoa and Textured Mauve) look dreamy, too.

The idea behind the Monochrome Eye Quads is to offer one color in four different finishes: velvety matte, subtle shimmer, metallic sheen, and sparkle. Continue reading “Go Taupeless? Never! Sonia Kashuk Monochrome Eye Quad in 08 Textured Taupe”
