I once coveted MAC’s Russian Red but thought it was too blue for me. Yes reds can be blue right? And boom, Ben Nye comes in a sweeps me off of my feet with the perfect shade of vs vs voom holiday red. Not Bill Nye the science guy but Ben Nye the makeup guy!
TonyMoly Kiss Lover Live Tint in #1 Live Pink looks like a gorgeous faintly neon pink coral in the bottle. (It looks like a bright pastel here, but that’s only because my camera couldn’t capture the neon-ness.) The texture is thin and liquidy: slightly heavier than a typical watery lip tint but lighter than some milky lip tints.
It takes a shit load of makeup to look “naturally pretty,” as my IT cosmetics palette indicates below:
#beautyselfie is my homage to Into the Gloss’s Top Shelf and Get It Beauty’s Talking Mirror series.
This inaugural #beautyselfie post features my friend Thuc, whose beauty style is playful and bright. She doesn’t wear much makeup on a day-to-day basis, but she can pull off lipstick from hot fuchsia to hot orange to hot magenta purple to, well, hot anything!
Read on as Thuc shares her beauty favorites . . .
I now have three Laneige Water Drop Tints in the milky/pastel family. (Although none look pastel once on the lips because they’re rather softly pigmented.)
Don’t they look scrumptious all lined up? Continue reading “Like a Kid in a Candy Shop: Comparison Swatches of Laneige Water Drop Tints in Orchid Violet, Neon Pink, and Peach Coral”
Capitalizing on the radiant orchid trend of this year, Laneige Water Drop Tint now comes in Orchid Violet. Orchid Violet would more accurately be called Orchid Pink. In the tube, it looks like a milky radiant orchid, purple with a hint of pink. But on my naturally pinkish lips, the sheer-to-medium coverage results in a soft pink with a hint of purple. Concealing my lips beforehand didn’t really make it more purple.
Lavender is one of my favorite colors, so I was excited to try out some purple lippies from Renee’s stash: Peripera Peri’s Tint Milk in 3 Milky Lavender and Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil in Violet.
Purple lipsticks are usually hard for me to pull off, generally making my skin and teeth look sickly yellow. (See, e.g., MAC Lavender Whip and Purple Rite lipsticks.) But these skew pink on my naturally pinkish lips, making them wearable but perhaps disappointing if you were hoping for true purple.
I first grew curious about the Laneige Serum Intense Lipsticks because Cheon Song Yi (Jun Ji Hyun) applies shade YR25 Neon Orange in one episode of “My Love From Another Star.” In that episode, she’s shown sitting at her vanity with the whole range of Laneige Serum Intense Lipsticks organized before her, and she selects this shade to wear before meeting up with Do Min Joon.
So naturally, I bought the exact same lipstick. While I was at it, I picked up LR07 Love Me Pink. The lipsticks have a creamy texture that melts onto your lips. The finish is moist and shiny. Coverage is medium and buildable to full. Due to the creamy texture, lasting power is just so-so. I HAD to have this. The Asian/child/Asian child in me squealed at the super super “kawaii” cute packaging. The apple cartoon being smiles at me with anime lashes and an open teeny mouth.

Fuchsia lips? Sooooo last summer. Well I still love fuchsia but obsessed with its cousin: vibrant violet!
Behold the Bite Beauty High Pigment Lip Pencil in Violet:
I was at Bite Beauty Lab in soho last week and swung by to see what’s crackin. For the unfamiliar, this is a place where you can mix your own colors and the Bite Beauticians will bake it into your own custom Bite lipstick. Art and personalization and makeup in one! And if you are one of those ladies that are constantly looking for the “perfect” shade of red or nude or whatever: this is YOUR dream come true.
